Founder of Cambridge Photographers
Jean-Luc Benazet
Hi — I’m Jean-Luc Benazet, a Cambridge photographer with 27+ years behind the lens, and the founder of Cambridge Photographers. If you’ve browsed this website and liked what you saw, it’s really good news: every photograph you see here was captured by me.
I specialise in people photography — the kind that feels natural, flattering, and honest. The kind you actually want to use. That includes event photography, portraits, corporate headshots, and corporate photography for individuals, families and businesses who care about credibility and quality.
I am based in South Cambridgeshire where I live with my wife Liza and son Zach, and ragdoll cat Delores.

The kind of photographer I’ve always been
I’ve never been interested in making people feel awkward. I’m interested in making people feel comfortable — because comfort is what creates real expressions, strong presence, and images that look like you (just on a very good day).
Whether I’m photographing:
- a keynote speaker mid-sentence,
- a team that hates having their picture taken,
- a couple who feel “not photogenic”,
- or a room full of people networking…
…the job is the same: read the moment, control the light, and keep things calm.
That’s why my style is often described as documentary, but flattering — real life, with the rough edges smoothed out.
From red carpets to real people (and why that matters)
Before becoming a full time pro, I spent years photographing high-pressure environments where there are no second takes.
From 2001 to 2013, I worked through a London agency called Famous, covering film premieres and live music events — the kind of work where you learn quickly: anticipation, timing, discretion, and speed. That period included major festivals and high-profile moments, including the V2001 music Festival, Cannes Film Festival (2002), and Glastonbury 2008.
That experience still shows up in my work today — especially in event photography:
- moving quietly without being noticed
- capturing people at their best
- working confidently in poor light
- delivering images that look polished, not chaotic
And closer to home, I’ve also covered the Cambridge Film Festival (2015–2024), which sharpened the same skillset: photographing people and atmosphere without interrupting it.
Cambridge is my patch — and I know how it works
Being a Cambridge photographer isn’t just about knowing the pretty spots. It’s knowing the pace, the pinch points, and the practical side that makes sessions run smoothly.
I’ve photographed:
- busy city-centre events where you get one chance at key moments
- corporate teams who need headshots done quickly and consistently
- portraits across Cambridge where the wrong timing makes everything harder
- and countless people who start by saying, “I’m terrible in photos.”
That local experience matters. It’s how you get calm results in a city that can be anything but calm.
What I photograph now (and what I’m known for)
Cambridge event photography
If you’re organising an event, you don’t need “lots of photos”. You need useful photos — speakers, networking, branding, atmosphere, and the moments that prove it was well attended. My Cambridge event photography is built for PR, LinkedIn, sponsor updates, and next year’s marketing.
Cambridge corporate headshots
Corporate headshots should be consistent, modern, and flattering — without turning your office into a film set. I photograph Cambridge corporate headshots on-site, with calm direction and a clean finish that works across LinkedIn, staff pages, proposals, and press.
Cambridge corporate photography
Businesses need imagery that makes them look credible: workplace photography, team interactions, leadership portraits, environment shots, and website-ready content. That’s what Cambridge corporate photography is for — showing what you do and who you are, without looking staged.
Portraits and people photography
Portraits are where I’m happiest. Professional, personal, editorial-style, relaxed outdoors, tight corporate… the common thread is always the same: easy direction, flattering light, and natural expression.
Proof in the portfolios
If you like seeing credentials in black and white (and in photographs), you can view my portfolios here:

Beyond client work — travel & landscape photography
Photography isn’t just what I do for a living — it’s how I look at the world. Between commissions, I shoot personal projects that take me away from commercial photography and into places, light, and atmosphere. These two galleries are from trips that have stayed with me.
Cuba
Cuba is one of those places that photographs itself — and that’s exactly the problem. The real work is getting past the postcards. I photographed across Havana and into the countryside, drawn to the street life, the colour, the crumbling architecture, and the way light falls through narrow colonial streets. There’s a rhythm to daily life there that feels both timeless and urgent, and I wanted the images to reflect that tension rather than just the charm.
Italian landscapes
Italy’s landscapes barely need a photographer — but the best light still makes the difference. This collection is from Tuscany: rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, golden-hour vineyards, and the quiet geometry of rural architecture. It’s slower, more contemplative work than anything I shoot in Cambridge, and I find that contrast genuinely refreshing. Sometimes it’s good to photograph something that doesn’t need directing.

Why people book me (even when they “hate photos”)
A lot of clients come to me with the same concern:
“I’m not photogenic.”
“My team will hate this.”
“I don’t want it to feel awkward.”
That’s exactly why I’m useful.
I’m calm. I’m quick. I give direction that doesn’t feel like posing. And I care about the final images actually being used — not living in a folder forever.
