Getting married at Cambridge Register Office

Cambridge Register Office—officially Cambridgeshire Register Office—is on Ascham Road, Cambridge, CB4 2BD, just off Milton Road.

It’s a practical choice for couples who want a smaller wedding, with the freedom to celebrate afterwards at a restaurant, a family home or another venue.

The Brooke Room suits larger gatherings, while the Orchard Room offers a smaller ceremony setting. Check your chosen room’s current capacity with the registration service, remembering to include your photographer in the total.

Parking and arrival

There is free on-site parking, including disabled parking, which makes arriving by car convenient. The registration service describes spaces as limited, so ask about parking arrangements when you book, particularly if several guests will be driving separately.

Follow the arrival time given by your registrars. We’ll arrange my photography start time around those instructions, allowing for arrival photographs where your schedule permits.

Arrivals and the ceremony

The story starts before you walk into the ceremony room: a greeting at the entrance, someone adjusting a buttonhole, or a quiet moment together.

During the ceremony, I work discreetly and follow the registrars’ guidance. My attention is on your expressions, the exchange of rings and the reactions of the people beside you.

Congratulations and family photographs

Afterwards, there’s time for hugs, congratulations and a planned selection of group photographs.

Before the wedding, we can agree a short list of the combinations that matter most. That helps keep things organised without leaving your guests waiting while we decide who should be in each picture.

The outdoor photography area includes a pergola and seating. We’ll choose our backgrounds according to the light, weather and space available on the day.

Couple portraits in Cambridge

You can keep your portraits close to the Register Office or allow extra time to head into Cambridge.

Jesus Green, riverside paths and the city’s historic streets offer different settings for a relaxed portrait session. Access to college grounds needs to be checked separately.

We’ll build travel and walking time into your coverage so the photographs fit comfortably between the ceremony and your next plans.

Photography costs £180 per hour, with no VAT. These examples help you compare different lengths of coverage:

Planning photography around your ceremony

A useful starting point is arrivals, the ceremony, congratulations, family groups and then couple portraits.

The right amount of coverage depends on your ceremony time, guest numbers, the photographs you want and whether we’re travelling elsewhere afterwards. Two hours with a few guests and portraits nearby is a different plan from two hours involving a large family and a journey across Cambridge.

Extending your photography: where to go after the ceremony

This is where a Cambridge Register Office wedding can look incredibly elevated. After the legal ceremony, you can choose one of two routes:

Option A: Keep it local (5–20 minutes of portraits, zero stress)

We stay close to the Register Office for confetti + family groups + a short couple session. Ideal for micro weddings, weekday lunches, or anyone who wants the “just married glow” without travelling.

Option B: Head into Cambridge for iconic portraits

If time allows, we can build in a short portrait stroll around classic Cambridge backdrops — river paths, historic streets, and elegant college views (where permitted). This gives you that unmistakable Cambridge feel, while still keeping the day relaxed.
